Welcome to CMMR 2019

The 14th International Symposium on Computer Music Multidisciplinary Research (CMMR) will take place in Marseille on 14-18 October 2019. This year’s conference theme is Perception, Representations, Image, Sound, Music.

The event will be hosted by the interdisciplinary art-science laboratory PRISM in collaboration with QMUL (London, UK), INESC TEC (Porto, Portugal) and other laboratories and institutes in Marseilles, such as I2M and MAP. In addition to the scientific collaborators, renown music and dance associations, such as n+n corsino, GMEM and MIM, will participate in the organization of the artistic part of the conference.

CMMR2019 is also organized to commemorate the French computer music pioneer Jean-Claude Risset who sadly passed away in November 2016 and who actively participated in the creation of the PRISM laboratory that hosts this year’s conference. As Jean-Claude was both a scientist, musician and composer, both a scientific session and a concert will be organized in his memory.

One question we would like to address during this year's conference is: What is the role of creators and/or artistic practices in the development of new technological advances, innovation and research in sound and music ? This question can be declined through several special sessions and topics, such as "Sonic interactions for immersive medias" or "Notations and instruments distributed on mobile devices". For more details see the Special sessions section. These topics also bring to the fore current and crucial issues related to intellectual properties of sounds and creative devices that we would like to address during the conference.

All the CMMR gatherings (see the CMMR History page) have resulted in post symposium proceedings containing selected peer-reviewed papers and published by Springer Verlag in the Lecture Notes in Computer Sciences Series, this is also planned for CMMR2019.
